01 About your home

Five quick items so we can frame the read appropriately.

Choose the closest match — we adjust the read based on it.
Electrical work requires the owner's authorisation and (usually) a permit.
Age informs likely wiring type, panel age, and code vintage.
A rough band is fine — round to the nearest listed range.
So we can point you at any state or utility programs that apply.
02 Your electrical service and panel

If you don't know an answer, "I don't know" is a real option and a common answer.

How do I check?

Open your main panel door — the main breaker at the top usually has a number stamped on it (e.g. 200). If you can't tell, choose "I don't know" — that is a real and common answer.

Panel age drives whether an evaluation is worth booking.
Some historical brands (Federal Pacific Stab-Lok, Zinsco, Pushmatic, some early Challenger series) have known safety concerns — knowing the brand helps us prepare.
Do you have any knob-and-tube or aluminium branch-circuit wiring?
Both are legal but require care — insurance and lenders sometimes ask about them.
Do you have GFCI or AFCI protection in place?
GFCI protects against shock in wet areas; AFCI protects against arc-fault fires. Current NEC requires both in most residential circuits.
03 How your home uses energy

Fuel choices inform any electrification-readiness read.

Informs any electrification-readiness recommendation.
Same reason — some programs cover heat-pump water heaters.
EV ownership or intent
An EV charger is often the reason a panel upgrade is worth booking.
04 Smart-home footprint

Optional questions — but the more you tell us, the sharper the read.

What smart devices, if any, do you already use?
We meet you where you are — no ecosystem preferences from us. Selecting "None" clears the others.
Which of these are on your wish list?
Pick as many as you like. We use this to suggest a coherent phase-one install.
05 Interests and priorities

The last few questions before contact — these shape the ranking we send back.

Which service areas are you most interested in? (choose up to 3)
We prioritise the read around these. Pick at least one, no more than three.
Your primary goal
One answer — the one that would come out of your mouth first.
An honest "I'm not sure yet" is a good answer. This is not a quote — it helps us scope.
"Just exploring" is fine — a lot of our best jobs start there.
Do you expect a permit / inspection is involved?
For most panel, service, and significant wiring work, yes. We handle the permit.
06 How to reach you

Last step. Nothing is sent to anyone until you click Send at the bottom.

First name is fine.
Where we send the follow-up.
Optional unless you'd rather we call.
Same as the property ZIP in Step 1.
Preferred contact method
We honour this.
Optional.
Optional. Photos of your panel are welcome by email afterwards — do not upload here.

Nothing is sent yet. Compute shows your read; a separate Send step below then emails a summary to KC Smart Services.

Your indicative read

Based on what you told us, here is where a professional look may be worth your time.

This is indicative guidance only, not a quote or a promise. Program eligibility depends on factors we can only confirm on site or with the program administrator.

How the qualification decides what to suggest

Our qualification does not claim access to any homeowner's utility records, tax records, or program-administrator systems. It reads six categories against the answers you provided and returns one of four verdicts per category: Likely worth evaluating, Possibly applicable, Needs an on-site assessment to say, or Unlikely to apply based on what you told us.

  • Service & panel capacity — driven by service size, panel age, planned EV / heat-pump / electric heat, and known-recalled panel brands. Older services (60A / 100A) paired with any electrification signal skew Likely.
  • Whole-home surge protection — bundled with any panel work; recommended for modern services with active smart-device use.
  • GFCI / AFCI safety remediation — driven by current protection coverage, legacy wiring, and vintage. Older homes with partial coverage skew Likely.
  • High-efficiency lighting conversion — driven by stated interest and home age. Newer builds skew Unlikely because they typically ship LED.
  • Smart-home controls — driven by wishlist, current devices, and interest. Wish-list drives Likely.
  • Electrification readiness (EV, heat pump, induction) — driven by EV intent, current fuel, primary goal. Oil / propane heat + efficiency goal skews Likely.

Every verdict is auditable — the answer that produced it. No dollar amounts, no named programs, no "you qualify" language, ever.

What happens next

  • If you Send.

Your default mail client opens with a prefilled message addressed to [EMAIL]. Review it, add anything else you'd like us to see, and hit send. We'll follow up within [RESPONSE_WINDOW].

  • If you Print.

Keep the summary for your records. Bring it to any electrician — the plain-English read is useful whether you hire us or not.

  • If you did neither.

Nothing you did here signed you up for anything or committed you to anything. Your answers stayed in your browser only.
